Inspired by a recent surge of incredible film scores characterized by a delicate chamber sound, coupled with cutting-edge contemporary production, the Touch of Glass: Modern Intimacy sample pack incorporates modern production techniques to raw recordings of various instruments to craft a nuanced sound palette that enhances the portrayal of fragile subjects on screen. When not enveloped in effects, the recordings themselves often embrace an “imperfectly perfect” quality, showcasing raw, intricate details. Main inspirations of such cinematic direction include the soundtracks for recent cutting edge films like Past Lives, Minari, Poor Things, and Mr. and Mrs. Smith (Prime Video).
Blending traditional elements with modern production techniques, Touch of Glass, produced by Ilyeob Choo, focuses on creating something familiar yet distinct and unique. Extended techniques such as muted pluck, ricochet, and glide were used on harp and violin. Production techniques such as pitch bend, delays, reverb, and granular synthesis were used on synths, kalimba, nylon guitar to achieve an eerie yet subtle sound. When not necessary, much of the sonic information on the EQ spectrum was not surgically cut out with the intention of giving the music-makers’ more flexibility to work with.
